3 New Believers from Soul Food!

Check out these videos of new believer’s testimonies from this year’s Soul Food weekend retreat.

Greek’s Find God at Greek Getaway!

This past month, Greeks from the San Diego Division had a retreat on Catalina Island hosted by Campus by the Sea. Greek Getaway is a time for students to get to know the Lord more intimately, share their own spiritual walks, cast new vision, and dive deep into scripture while rejoicing in the community of being Greek!

This year we had the national head of Greek InterVaristy, and author of “Sex & Dating,” Mindy Meyer share her wisdom. Students came home greatly impacted by her teaching.

“I came home from Greek Getaway with Mindy’s teaching laying heavy on my heart. I asked Casey, my Greek staff, more questions about how this applies to non-Christians, and then shared it with my roommates.”

As a result from Greek Getaway at San Diego State, we had a handful of new students come to our Greek InterVarsity community event this past Wednesday! We are praying that Greek Getaway can be a catalyst for more Greek students to catch an interest in being involved with our community and hearing more about Jesus.

“BEHIND THE SCENES”

Aaron at this year's Soul Food Retreat in Catalina.

“I didn’t sign up for this just to sit down and do nothing.”  This was the response I got after talking to a student who is new to InterVarsity this semester.  Aaron Brinkman is a recent transfer to SDSU and has been a key helper in our ministry in only his first semester with InterVarsity.

One of the biggest things we do at InterVarsity is our weekly large group that we call, Fuel, and Aaron has been a key person in our weekly setup for Fuel.  Fuel is a place for students to come to connect with God and to our community through guest speakers, worship and fellowship.

Just as you’d imagine, Fuel is a production, to say the least.  Like you’d see on a Sunday church service, setting up Fuel involves setting up a stage with a full band;  a full drum set, forty pound amplifiers, multiple speakers and monitors, mixers, microphones, and the list goes on and on.  Instead of having a regular stage always setup, we store all of our equipment at a church across the street from SDSU in a small closet, up a set of stairs in a tiny congested hallway, in the church sanctuary.  So, take the list of equipment, add stairs, add loading cars, add unloading cars, add setting it all up, and after is all said and done, repeat the process in reverse.

While this process may sound tiring to both you and I, I’ve been able to watch Aaron, every week, contribute so much of his time and energy to setting up, and doing everything with a smile on his face and with no complaints at all.  Aaron’s positive attitude in such a behind the scenes role represents exactly what InterVarsity looks for in a good leader.  Would you join with us in praying for more potential leaders like Aaron who will be fueled to, ‘not just sit around’ and sign up to serve in expanding God’s Kingdom at SDSU.

God & Sex?!?

Many college students ask us: How far is too far? Why NOT have sex before marriage? Why are Christians against pornography and masturbation? Why are Christians so prude about sex? What does God think about people who lost their virginity? What does God say about those who have been raped? What if you’re someone who is dating someone who isn’t Christian, but you are?
Many students want to know…
WHAT DOES GOD SAY ABOUT SEX?

On Wednesday, October 26th, Greek InterVarsity launched one of their main outreach events, Sexy Pizookie. We invited the entire Greek Community to come to Pi Beta Phi, one of the sororities at SDSU with a commanding social presence, to ask questions anonymously to a panel of Christians to gain their perspective on what God thinks about sex and dating.

Tori, a Pi Phi and leader of Greek Intervarsity emceed the night and had a lot to say about this event, “Sexy Pizookie was a great opportunity for students to hear about God’s view on sex and dating and it gave people hope for godly living in college. About 100 students were there and heard the gospel. It was my favorite Greek InterVarsity event so far.”

This event allowed the amazing panel to share the benefits of why God wants us to wait to have sex until marriage and this truth was received with excitement! By the end of the night 10+ students expressed interest in wanting to check out Greek InterVarsity and our weekly bible study. We are blessed to be on-campus presenting God’s view on these topics and issues so students can hear God’s truth amongst all of the other voices and opinions they hear on such topics in college.
